SKY SAILOR 25 September | October 2019 Jonghwan Kim writes from Korea: On a relaxing Sunday morning with a cup of coffee, I'mwatching a video of the 2019 Moyes hang gliding trip to China. We arrived to a local welcome, a lamb barbecue and camp fire – both new experiences for me. Our container house accommodation was basic, but comfortable. Set on the grassy expanse, it felt more luxurious than an expensive house in the city. For the next ten days, I got to meet a group of pilots from other nationalities. We ate together, relaxed together, toured a few sites together and got to know each other better. We had our love of hang gliding in common. Guyuan in China is at high altitude place (circa 1450m), which made landing difficult at times. I am used to landing in Korea, but remembered that at the Pre-world HG championship in Mexico, I had an accident while landing at altitude (over 1000m), so I realised the importance of safe landings at these altitudes. As a result, I did much better and was very happy to achieve first place. When I arrived home, I gave the prize money to my wife, who is happy for me to go to more foreign countries for hang gliding competitions such as this. I would like to thank all the people who helped me make good memories, and Vicki Cain for giving me this video so I can keep these memories for a long time. Very different from the busy city I know.” Jonghwan Kim Photos: Left – Jonghwan Kim, and above – Scott Ireland
