24 SKY SAILOR September | October 2019 First Asian Tour PWC This event aimed to skill up Asian pilots and com- petition organisers to boost pilot levels and Asia as a place to fly. We flew all tasks in windy conditions. Only two people made goal in all tasks. On Days 1 and 2, only a couple of pilots did 20 to 30km, everyone else bombed out. Scores were low. The last task saw most pilots fly 20 to 30km, scoring 600 odd points. Hatchi, the deserved winner, flew very consistent and played a smart game. Wally Arcidiacono came second and third place bombed on the first two days, then flew over our heads an hour after eve- ryone else had landed for an extra 2km and a place on the podium. Fickle racing, but a really nice way to meet many new faces. Lots of energy in our sport within Asia! The future has potential. David Snowden Advance Omega X-Alps 3 – A Winner! After Chrigel Maurer’s historic 6th Red Bull X-Alps win, Advance has released the Omega X-Alps 3 he and other competitors flew as a production model. The EN-D certified high performance glider weighs only 3.5kg (size 22) and incorporates all the latest cutting edge technology and Advance expertise. The Omega X-Alps 3 is a new generation two-liner and excelswhile accelerated in turbulent air. The pilot enjoys high structural stability with balanced pitch behaviour. The exceptional top speed available in rough air was especially useful for Chrigel Maurer as he flew over 1500km in just nine days. Advanceusescomputer- analysedstructuralweight- optimisation on all serial wings. This was further refined for the Omega X-Alps 3 to achieve minimum weight. The high tech internal design is unique. New, narrower multiple slash diagonals, and the Ripstop weave exactly alignes with the computed tension vector to achieve robustness, shape stability and lifespan. The Omega X-Alps 3 uses premium Nitinol (nickel-titanium alloy) leading edge wires which are virtually indestructible compared to nylon and allow regular fast packing with no potential leading edge profile damage. The Omega X-Alps 3 is an easy performance wing in the lower EN-D certification zone with an aspect ratio of 6.9 and 63 cells. RRP is $5400 (subject to FX rate). Available in one colour only and three sizes from 75-110kg, see [advance.ch] for more informa- tion or contact the importer: Manilla Paragliding 02 67856545, <godfrey@flymanilla.com >. Godfrey Wenness Nova Doubleskin: Minimalist Hike & Fly The Doubleskin is the lightest paraglider in the world at an extraordinary 2.1kg (size 17, pro- jected).
