SAFA Skysailor Magazine

6 SKY SAILOR November | December 2019 task, land in goal 30 seconds behind the winner, only to find you have come 60th for the day. In the second week, the task committee dug deeper into their bag of tricks to raise the complex- ity of tasking. Tasks with clear crux points involving large waypoint cylinders (+70km in some cases), as well as concentric cylinders (utilising entry and exit combinations), provided multiple course options and increased demands on pilot decisionmaking. This made for more exciting racing – providing different lines, splitting the super-gaggle up (somewhat) and de-compressing the day scores. All in all, our Australian team represented well. At the close of the competition, Gareth Carter (Ozone Enzo3) was top Aussie in 41st, I made the podium in the Women’s Championship in 3rd and was 65th overall (Ozone Enzo3), Felipe Rezende was 97th (Flow Spectra) and Peter Slade was 102nd (Gin Boomerang11). In the Team Champion- ship we placed 20th. The Championships have highlighted our team’s strengths, but also confirmed the areas that we need to work on with the rest of the Australian Paragliding Squad, in preparation for the next 2021 World Championships in Annecy, France. Thank you to all our friends and families who showed their love and support throughout the Championships, as well as SAFA. The numerous messages really helped to keep us going through the long two weeks of competition. And finally, the biggest thank you of all goes to Dave and Phil, who worked tirelessly throughout the Championships to support our team. We couldn’t have done it without you two legends.
