SAFA Skysailor Magazine

7 March | April 2021 SKY SAILOR Their feelings were still pretty raw, but it was good to listen to their experienc- es. Duncan, who owned the paddock next to the airport, said that he was more than happy for us to land at his place and was even happier that we had made contact with him to ask permission! He also offered two other paddocks, one next to the caravan park. We visited Jake and Nikki across the road from the caravan park. We had been told that no one was allowed to land there as they hate hang gliders and paragliders. They were wrapped that we had asked permission. Turns out, 15 years they had owned the land and, again, no one had talked to them! Jake said he had actually shifted the cattle out of the paddock we usually land in, knowing that we were coming. We gifted them a slab of frosty beverages and other goodies, as we did Duncan and the bomb-out paddock owner. They said that they are happy for us to use the paddocks next year too. We had the trophies made by the Corryong Men’s shed, which were a hit with the winners and we’ve asked them to look at making some stiles so pilots don’t damage the fences when exiting the paddocks. Covid played a part in the comp, however, Tracey Meyer was all over it, with masks and hand sanitiser, Covid check- in points and social distancing were the norm. No hugs this year folks. That nearly killed me! Track logs were sent remotely to Wesley and for the goombars that couldn’t, he wasn’t too hard to find.
