23 March | April 2021 SKY SAILOR Australian Dealership: Jean-Luc Lejaille www.paraglidingrainbow.com Ramon’s goal is to be able to provide training in Tasmania where it hasn’t been possible before, to make it easier for the aspiring pilots who are based in the state. “The fact that any new pilot needs to travel to another state, means training for new Tasmanian pilots costs at least $1000 more than the standard cost of learning elsewhere in Australia, plus it requires plenty of leave from family and work,” he said. “I have seen many people not venture into the sport because the time and extra effort and money means it is too far beyond many people’s means to get into the sport.” Ramon believes his biggest achievement is still to come – as he continues to work on advancing his certifications, he holds his instructor’s certificate and is currently working towards his CFI rating, while maintaining his flight hours. “I currently fly around 100 hours a year and when it was possible, I competed in competitions or spent a few weeks in Europe each year. Balance is important in everything we do in life and being on top of that is something I will continue to work on.” Having access to a flight school will help boost the sport in Tasmania. It will also encourage and give options to the younger generation looking to take flight.
