20 SKY SAILOR March | April 2020 New Products XC-Tracer Maxx Instrument A new XC instrument from XCTracer, building on the zero lag sensors that made the XCtracer the best vario to date, with a simple, intuitive screen for XC flight that doesn’t clutter your display. Fo- cusses on displaying the essentials of your flying buddies locations and airspace navigation. With the simplicity and compactness of the XCTracer, but now with the function to be a stand-alone instrument. Still retains the stable bluetooth output connection to give complex mapping on a phone or tablet device. First stock expected in March 2020. Stay tuned for updates at [planetparagliding.com.au] . Ozone Shield Helmet The new free flight helmet from Ozone. Very lightweight and compact, and with a ‘one size fits all’ adjustability dial that always gives a good fit, even with different layers underneath. Limited vents for warmth, removable liner for cleaning and ear flaps for warmth that fold flat for compact packing. Available in two colours with all options in stock at [planetparagliding.com.au] . Gavin Zahner Nova Aonic – High-End EN-A This is a high-end EN-A glider with 49 cells and a flat aspect ratio of 5.17. Aonic offers the high passive safety of an EN-A glider (fully suitable for instruction) in combination with a pinch of agility and speed, as well as the performance of an EN-B. Newcomers to the sport will find it a wing that can accompany them all the way to their first 200km FAI triangles. Experienced pilots will find it confidence inspiring, with little loss of performance or flying fun. The Aonic comes in four colours and five sizes, with a weight range from 55 to 130kg. When unpacking the Aonic, the extremely simplified line concept is immediately noticeable. There are only two line galleries: main lines and gallery lines. Since the main lines are sheathed and a complete gallery (with the necessary seams) has been omitted, the lines almost sort themselves. The lines are colour-coded as recommended by the Paraglider Manufacturers Association: A = red, B = yellow, C = blue, brake = orange, stabilo line = green. Safety is also ensured by markings on the risers for big ears and B-line stall, and colour-coded attach- ment loops (right = green and red = left). Launch and landing characteristics are simple and forgiving. In flight, however, the Aonic comes with substantial extra in performance, achieved with design details such as the Air Scoop, to ensure internal pressure is maintained even at low angles of attack, 3D shaping at the leading edge, 49 cells and the reduced line drag. Chief De- signer, Philipp Medicus, says, “The Aonic offers the potential to be a real mile-muncher.” Visit our website for more. Nova Itus Reversible Harness With this new reversible harness, Nova paid special attention to the highest possible safety: with an innovative, self-inflating three-chamber airbag, a state of the art 3D parachute compartment, as well as a SAS-TEC protector at the back. In addition, the Itus is also light, very comfortable, easy to adjust and offers clever storage solutions. The lightweight rucksack is very comfortable to carry and uses a modular system: the harness is connected to the harness using a zip – a really smart design. This makes the Itus suitable for a plethora of purposes – from instruction, soaring, travelling, hike & fly and even cross-country. Reversible harnesses are becoming increasingly popular. They are light, practical, when packed they take up little room and are easy to carry. With the Itus, Nova have set a newbenchmark in this harness category. To achieve this, developer Luis Depping and his team have designed the Itus from scratch, taking the latest safety insights on harnesses into account. They built countless prototypes and it was tested beyond the stipulated standards - even to the point of blackout on the G-Force Trainer… A real highlight of the ITUS is the 3D parachute container: The EN standard for harnesses stipulates that the release force for the parachute must be between 2 and 7 daN. The pulling direction is not part of the certification tests. As a result, during deployment, parachutes can often only be pulled with a delay, ‘in stages’ or sometimes not at all – especially with high g-forces and whilst turning violently, exactly a scenario in real emergency. With the Itus, Nova paid the greatest attention to the shape, position and opening of the rescue compartment, as well as the specially designed deployment bag and deployment handle. Thanks to the new 3D design, the pulling force is distributed over the entire front of the container. This makes it easier to deploy and prevents the rescue from getting stuck in the compartment – regardless from which angle you pull it. The Itus light rucksack is a modular design, the rucksack can be attached and removed using a zip. This means it can be washed separately when it gets dirty and can be used alone for completely different purposes too. For anyone who wants to reduce the weight of the harness, the rucksack’s unzipping function saves around 700g. The Itus is scheduled to be available from April. Detailed info at [nova.eu/itus] .
