SAFA Skysailor Magazine

32 SKY SAILOR January | February 2021 Common maintenance issues: • • A current Rotax servicing schedule should be printed off and signed up for every maintenance event. It must then be kept with the Aircraft Logbook. • • If an item on the schedule doesn’t apply, write N/A in the signature box. Otherwise sign for each item you have completed. • • The first 25 hour service should have its own schedule sheets printed and signed. • • The magnetic plug and the filter mat must be inspected at every oil filter change. • • 100hp engine schedule requires a friction torque check. The new Rotax MML has an error and omitted this. (We have verified with BertFloods that it should be completed every 100 hours). • • Rotax no longer supply the basic toolkit with new engines. The Rotax crank lock screw is now a tool that needs to be purchased separately from BertFloods. • • Rotax manuals and SB compliance should be kept current by registering for free email updates with R.O.A.N. • • Aircraft Logbooks: (Downloadable from SAFA website/ members area) should consist of separate Airframe, Wing and Engine sections and include an Annex for keeping Supervised 100 hour/ Annual service the signed Rotax servicing schedules and any applicable modification approvals etc. • • Aircraft logbooks are for maintenance actions only and not flight details. • • Heatshrink over wire ferrules should be removed. They prevent close inspection and can promote corrosion. • • Safety wire should be 0.032” stainless steel or monel metal, unless the aircraft manufacturer states otherwise. In metric, it is referred to as 0.8D tie wire (Airborne Manuals). Safe flying. Oil change Oil filter findings Installing drain plug Torquing spark plugs Example: Heatshrink can trap corrosion
