24 SKY SAILOR November | December 2020 Nova Ion 6 Light EN-B In September, Nova launched the lightweight version of the Ion 6 – Ion 6 Light. In the standard version this intermediate, which is also suitable for EN-B class newcomers, has already successfully undergone its baptism as an XC machine: Toni Brügger flew a FAI triangle of 243km in the Valais in Switzerland and Berni Pessl a 246km FAI triangle from Graz in Austria. Not bad for a low-end intermediate... The Ion 6 Light has all the technical features of the standard version: Mini-ribs, Zig-zag 3D-shaping, Air scoop, Mini-rib vector tape and optimised wing twist in accelerated flight, but size S weighs 800g less, without compromising its suitability for everyday use. This makes it infinitely versatile – great for cruising around local sites, paragliding trips, hike & fly, vol-biv and ambitious XC flights. The Ion 6 Light has 7mm wide PES/Aramid risers. These are aerodynamically advantageous being slimmer and 100g lighter. The risers are simple to use, unlike the twisty ‘spaghetti-straps’ you find on many lightweight wings. The cloth is a perfect compromise between durability and small weight. Nova guarantees the Ion 6 Light for three years. Size S (all-up weight 80 to 100kg), weighs only 3.9kg – and can be packed remarkably small. Ion 6 comes in five sizes, with a weight range from 60 to 130kg. Now, Mac Para promises the same for EN-A category. Our new glider, the Muse 5, features the same technology and material mix as the Eden 7. It has 50 cells and an aspect ratio 5.2.
