SAFA Skysailor Magazine

SKY SAILOR 13 May | June 2020 On the right I changed the sky using Luminar 4. It is not difficult to change the sky in this program, but is it cheating? Would you agree the photography on the right is much more memorable? To me, the deciding factor is whether the pilot is happy with the end result. When you have a sequence of images, you can certainly go to town and do things that are a wee bit novel. The image above is a blend of six photo- graphs which were initially processed in Lightroom and then blended in Photoshop. Acknowledgements Before I go, it would be remiss of me to not ac- knowledge that my SIV photographs are the result of a team effort. There is the ground crew focused on getting the pilot on tow safely, the boat crew to get the pilot to a safe altitude to perform the SIV manoeuvre, and of course the instructor who talks the pilot through the manoeuvre. Without that team and pilot effort there would be no photographs to speak of. There you have it. Hopefully, I have given enough technical detail without boring you witless. Next time you head out for a fly, why not take your camera along for the ride? You never know you might just get the shot. All photos: Phil Kirkman
