8 SKY SAILOR May | June 2020 Day 8 – 1 February The last day for the 2020 XC Camp started out as a typical pre-frontal blue day with moderate N-NW winds. As the winds abated and turned more west, the clouds started popping at over 2000m. A light southerly was predicted to come through in the afternoon, like previous days, and below 1500m was again going to be tricky with slow climbs. A few took off around midday and tried their luck in the mostly blue skies heading SE towards Halls Creek, then anticipating the S-SW winds to take them into the Tablelands towards Armidale. Most pilots waited until mid/late afternoon to launch to ensure more consistent conditions and less chance of bombing out early. The clouds eventually grew to a healthy size and better spacing. Cloudbase again rose to 3000m which offered great late afternoon XC towards Manilla XC Camp 2020 Thermalling under great cloud high over Kingstown on Day 8 Day 8: On glide over the drought affected fields near Mt Borah Japanese team leader, Satoshi, gets all the perks on launch The launch gallery waiting for the wind techs to show the way on Day 8
