18 SKY SAILOR May | June 2018 H ere on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, we are pretty lucky . Paramotors can fly along the beach, we share the sky with helicopters and planes. Since the Gold Coast is a popular holiday destination in Australia, it can get pretty busy, especially in summer. With the surf life saver and the Seaworld helicopters doing rotations all day long, the air traffic can get very congested, hence the importance of radio communication. When transmitting, keep it short and simple: ➲ who you are, ➲ your location and altitude, and ➲ your intentions. It is always nice to be acknowledged by other aircrafts. When you share the sky with others, the size of the craft does not matter. That why the saying goes: Aviate, Navigate and Communicate Communication With Others In The Air When flying, alone or with others, you must have means to communicate (via VHF or UHF radio) for emergencies or to let others know your intentions. by Roger Ranty Seaworld theme park with Southport in the background Surfers Paradise and the Sundale Bridge to connection to Southport
