SAFA Skysailor Magazine
SKY SAILOR 21 January | February 2020 timing and touch are right, there is no need to fear the consequences of an aggressive flare action. I am a bit surprised at how hard it has been to un-learn poor technique. I catch myself out gripping too tightly or pushing out weakly with my lazy old flare action. But I am also surprised at how simple it can be when you do those few important things right. I always review my flights, often with the help of video footage. I am analytical and I am critical. After each flight, I ask myself what went well and what could have been better, but I don’t beat myself up any more about mistakes. I am trying to fly regularly, and I am less fearful of landing and view it as another chance to re-visit the magic rather than something to be afraid of. I have become patient, and most importantly… I am having fun. Nullarbor Sea Cliffs Flying the Bight Photos: Tony Smith Keep a light touch and always flare with open palms.
