SKY SAILOR 5 May | June 2020 Day 2 – 26 January: Cancelled The forecast for Australia Day was for high hu- midity and earlier overdevelopment with initially stronger N-NW winds. By 11am despite some good skies to the east of Mt Borah, the potential for OD prompted the day to be cancelled. Pilots could free fly as they wished and many took the opportunity for a short local area flight before the sky got too serious. Others ventured into Tamworth to enjoy the Country Music Festival. Day 3 – 27 January A similar forecast to yesterday, with light SW winds, early clouds, possible showers then some isolated storms late in the day. Pilots launched from Mt Borah West into mixed thermal/ridge soaring conditions with things getting a little congested at times. Most flew along the range towards Manilla and then spread out looking for routes to avoid any rain showers that might develop. The skies to the south and west were mostly blue for the afternoon, but that also meant a lack of thermals. The day winner was on his second flight and managed 66km towards Bingara before some larger OD stopped him. Others in the top five flew around the Manilla and Namoi River valleys using the three turnpoints to advantage. 1. Furogo, Makoto, Jpn, Zeno, Comp 66 2. Rose, Graham, Aus, Advance Iota 2, Sport 48 3.
