SKY SAILOR 3 March | April 2019 C hange is a constant in life and this is often highlighted with the passing of an old year and the commencement of the new. As mentioned in the last SkySailor, the Committee of Management has developed a roadmap to guide our thinking and actions as we seek to chart the progress of our sport towards a future design. The HGFA Strategic Plan is available via the website and with 2019 well under way, we are now progressing with the implementation of strategies contained within the plan. With this in mind, the plan identifies the safety of our members and of the activities they engage in as one of the key pillars underpinning our growth ambitions. President’s Update Specifically, we seek to establish a safety culture of care and diligence that exceeds our responsibilities to all stakeholders and which is supported by world class training. In the short to medium term this includes activities to further develop our safety system and improve accident and incident management. The Committee of Management has made a very visible commitment to this strategy with the appointment of Iain Clarke as the HGFA’s new Safety Management Officer. The role will have a wide ranging focus and address the challenges of significantly improving safety services to our members as well as driving the implementation of Part 149 and meeting our CASA expectations. In this edition of SkySailor, we introduce our members to Iain, who is also the President of the Tasmanian Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association. Iain, like all of us, believes our members deserve the very best we can provide in regards to their safety, and he’ll be working hard to enhance the safety culture of the HGFA as well as ensuring all our safety programs and processes operate at best practice.
