9 January | February 2021 SKY SAILOR Based in the township of Barraba, NSW, this hang gliding aero-towing event was held at the Barraba aerodrome for the first time in November 2020. With great excitement, the Newcastle HG Club had added this new event as a replacement to our previous tow comp which we had run at Gulgong for many years. We had 13 pilots and three free flyers at the event – mainly NSW pilots and two from Queensland due to the Covid-19 situation. It was a great week with seven taskable flying days on top of the practice day’s flying in perfect conditions for towing and flying. Tasks set were up to 145km in distance, and during the week, we flew triangles so at the end of the day, gliders in goal could be left set up in the hangars ready for the next day. During the event, we also had one goal at Willy’s aerodrome at Lake Keepit. The comp was a great success with both, the pilots and the township of Barraba who became engrossed in the event. We had plenty of spectators and media interested in what was going on. It looks like this will also be a great event for next year. A ‘thank you’ to all of our spon- sors and all who helped out during the event – I look forward to seeing you all there next year, 13 to 20 November 2021.
