SAFA Skysailor Magazine

21 January | February 2021 SKY SAILOR Thanks must go to our host Steve, for allowing us to use his hangar, to Jim who supplied his 582 powered X-Air, and also to Matt for organising the course and for allowing us the use of his Airborne XT-912. Matt found out the hard way how difficult it is to get people to commit to a particular date. We managed eventually and I must thank everyone for their patience while we were negotiating suitable weekends. Matt and Steve were the only trike fliers in this group. All other attendees were three-axis, either RAAus or GA. We had two seaplane owners and it was interesting to learn more about the SeaRey amphibians and their maintenance regime. During one of the breaks, some of our course attendees were inspecting the XT-912 and found what appeared to be delamination or cracks in the prop hub. This was not something we had come across before, so was a good ‘find’ by the class. Matt has since been in touch with Bolly who have said from his photos, that the hub was one of many that were manufactured in China, and Bolly have since recalled all manufactured there. Matt returned his blades to them for refurbishment and at the time of writing, has already received his blades and new hub, ready to fit. Matt confirmed that his XT-912 is a 2007 model with 1460 hours which he bought second hand. Please find attached: the Marian Airfield Course article for SkySailor magazine. We found a problem with a prop during the course, so if possible, could you please  include the group photo and the two prop photos (I zoomed in on one, so use whichever version you think his best), also the Gyro photos but feel free to include/ exclude any of the others.
