28 SKY SAILOR January | February 2019 New Products Arak: The Multi-tool With the Arak, Skywalk is launching a third series in the Intermediate class in 2018. The glider will thrill with its playful character and easy-to-handle performance. From beginner to professional, from hike & fly enthusiast to adventurer – the Arak is a reliable companion for every need! Because Skywalk already has two distinctive intermediates with Tequila and Chili, the development team, led by chief designers Alex Höllwarth and Stephan Gruber, broke new ground in the development of the Arak. “The Arak is a perfect all-rounder for all pilots looking for a versatile paraglider and who put high demands on their wing. Our focus was to develop a simple-to-use intermediate with playful handling that helps the pilot keep their cool in the toughest conditions, but with performance so compelling that even top XC pilots can achieve their ambitious goals,” enthuses Alex Höllwarth. When selecting the materials, Skywalk thought of frequent fliers as well as hike & fly pilots. Thanks to its innovative combination of materials, the size S Arak weighs only 4.5kg and fits snugly into modern hike & fly rucksacks such as the Hike. The Arak can also survive extended dune and ground-handling sessions and is robust enough to provide long- lasting enjoyment. Whether you’re an XC pilot, a globetrotter or an adventurer – the Arak brings to market a real multi-tool that puts no limits on your flying horizon! [www.skywalk.info ] Sys’Evolution At the beginning of October, Syride released a new version of the firmware for the Sys’Evolution which adds, amongst other features, bluetooth activation to this top of the line instrument. Bluetooth not only allows sending flights to pilot’s profiles via your mobile phone, but also activates a live tracking feature. There is no need for a new sim card subscription, you can use your smartphone’s current data plan. Your phone will use your instrument’s GPS position (as well as other information such as altitude, speed, vario...) – you can bypass the energy-consuming phone’s internal GPS. Impact on the battery is low and the Sys’Evolution is already well known as an energy saving instrument thanks to its e-ink display. Soon, this bluetooth connection will also allow the display of live wind reports on the Sys’Evolution, short messaging to a pre-defined contact while in-flight, and automatic flight upload when landing.
